It's Official: Keith Olberman Has Lost His Mind
Can low ratings drive a man insane? Or is the increasingly bizarre series of rantings that the the several hundred viewers of MS-NBC’s “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” see the result of Keith’s head-in-the-subway door accident (talk about bizarre!)? Who knows—who cares. Whatever the cause, it’s clear that KO is this close (fingers about a millimeter apart) from a date with a straitjacket, if last night’s “special comment” is any guide.
As part of my sacred obligation to my listeners, I have watched thousands of hours of insufferable tv, as you know. Regular listeners to my radio program know that there are only two things that are guaranteed to drive the Husband out of the room. Olbermann’s show is one of them. (Bill Mahre and his show is the other.) Since I understand how painful it is to watch this show, I consider it a duty to watch it so you don’t have to. Still, nothing, not my genuine indifference about this clowns on tv, not my exposure to a relentless assault of liberal ignorance, stupidity and revisionist history over the last few years, not even my absolute confidence that Keith Olbermann’s personal issues with authority have rendered him incapable of rational thinking, prepared me for what I saw last night.
You should also know that Keith Olbermann was so lathered up over what he felt deserved to be the #1 story in the Countdown (his silly brain dump) that he actually came back from vacation to talk about it! I actually received a special e-mail alert (of course I’m on their mailing list—it’s part of my job) yesterday afternoon alerting me to the fact that Keith, even though on vacation this week, would be in. What was it that had him so outraged? What always outrages liberals? When someone tells the truth about them, of course.
I refer to Defense Secretary Donald Rumfeld’s speech to the American Legion in Salt Lake City–you know the one that the 5th column MSM described as the Secretary’s “lashing out” at administration critics–in which he dared to suggest that some people haven’t learned the lessons of history when it comes to fighting a determined, relentless enemy like the Islamofacist headchoppers who have made it clear that they want to murder every single American on the planet. In KO’s twisted vision, Secretary Rumsfeld’s “remarkable speech, was one in which he claimed to possess a “total omniscience,” and in which he “impugns the morality, loyalty and intelligence of the majority of Americans.”
That wasn’t the most delusional part of Keith’s rant, though. That came when he explained that “Mr. Rumsfeld make an apt historical analogy. Excepting the fact, that he has the battery plugged in backwards. His government, absolute — and exclusive — in its knowledge, is not the modern version of the one which stood up to the Nazis.
It is the modern version of the government of Neville Chamberlain.”
Yes, in Keith’s world, the Bush administration is Neville Chamberlain and he and his September 10 party pals, who as Mark Steyn noted are always in the company of a white flag, are Winston Churchill! I kid you not. I can’t make this stuff up. Even I’m not that good.
Here’s KO’s basic argument: Churchill disagreed with Chamberlain. Chamberlain “demonized” Churchill for stating his disagreement; therefore, Rumsfeld, who also “demonizes” his critics is Chamberlain. The only problem with Keith’s argument is that it ignores the policy positions that each side argued for. Like the Bush administration, Churchill argued for confronting evil, sooner rather than later. Chamberlain wanted the equivalent of containment, hoping against hope that evil wouldn’t show up on his country’s doorstep.
After making this truly jaw-drop inducing argument, Keith said that our country was still a democracy, but “just barely,” and launched in the usual litany of leftist lamentations (WMD, Katrina, Fog of Fear, Cheney and his cronies profited, Nixon, McCarthy, even Curtis LeMay, for heaven’s sake). He concluded by solemnly reading a quote from—who else?–Edward R. Murrow! In Keith’s fevered brain, “[t]he confusion we — as its citizens— must now address, is stark and forbidding.” PULEEZE: try to be more self-important, you glorified sportscaster! I don’t doubt that he’s facing confusion, but not in the embarrassingly adolescent, heroic speaker of truth to power way that this poseur envisions when he thinks of his pathetic self.
Olbermann says that Donald Rumsfeld is no prophet. I say Olbermann is no crusading journalist. He’s just an idiot who got his head caught in a subway door, which explains A LOT.

After the Show, 8/27/06
As I told you yesterday, a situation has come to my attention that demands immediate attentiion, and I know just the guy to help out. Here's the letter that I read to him on the air yesterday.
Dear Senator Durbin:
Recently I read with great distress that, Mr. Rashid Rauf, a key suspect being held in Pakistan in connection with the plot to blow up several trans-Atlantic airliners has been giving authorities vital information. I say “great distress” because it’s obvious to me, as I’m sure it is to you, that Mr. Rauf would not be singing like a canary if he weren’t being subjected to the sort of vicious torture that U.S. troops are so well known for, as you exposed last year. I am writing to you in the hope that you, Russ Feingold, John Kerry and your other democrat colleagues will immediately take action to redress this horrific violation of human rights. Specifically, I suggest that:
We immediately file a lawsuit in the U.S. District court in Michigan presided over by Anna Diggs Taylor. Enlist the assistance of the ACLU. She seems inclined to rule in their favor.
Send Jimmy Carter to Pakistan to insure that this torture stops immediately.
Release Mr. Rauf immediately, and since we illegally disrupted his plans without a warrant that would pass 4th amendment scrutiny, allow him and his crew unfettered access to a dozen trans-Atlantic aircraft to do with as they wish. It’s only fair. After all, we exclude evidence of obvious crimes if the police don’t have a proper warrant. Why should Mr. Rauf’s rights be violated?
Thank you Senator Durbin. I know I can depend on you to make sure Mr. Rauf’s rights are protected, if not the safety of Americans.

Am I Being Too Cynical?
You know that I am a firm believer in nurturing the healthy skepticism that is the hallmark of an active mind, but that I abhor the corrosive cynicism that seems to afflict so many today. Recently a friend asked if me if he was too cynical about the MSM, and of course the answer to that question is Lily Tomlin’s famous line that “every time I think I’m being too cynical I realize that I can’t keep up.” Now, though, I wonder if perhaps I’m being too cynical about:
George Allen and the “macaca” comment, you know this foolishness:
"But the event [McCain’s endorsement]was partly overshadowed by continuing criticism over comments Allen made last week to a Webb volunteer of Indian descent that many have said were demeaning and insensitive.Webb commented about the controversy for the first time Wednesday, saying that he thinks Allen 'knew what he was saying' when he addressed S.R. Sidarth, a 20-year-old from Fairfax County, as 'Macaca' at a GOP rally Friday. The term, which refers to a genus of monkey, is an ethnic slur in some cultures." (Washington Post)
Here’s the cynical thought I had. Since this “macaca” thing is a racial slur that almost no one had heard of until now—I hadn’t. Had you?—is it possible that someone supporting George Allen’s opponent suggested to him that that would be a funny nickname for the stalker/spy/cameraman from the Webb campaign? This operative from the Webb campaign whispers in the senator’s ear, and Allen, never having heard the term, thinks it sounds funny and unknowingly calls the guy that. Plausible?
Jill Carroll and Oprah
When I read that freed hostage Jill Carroll had watched Oprah with her captors, I couldn’t help but wonder whether she would be writing a book. I mean, let’s face it. All authors know that the difference between fame, fortune and a best-seller and consignment to the bargain bin in the front of the store is having the Oprah mention your book, or even better, have you on the show. Since we all realize that for all her supposed spirituality, if narcissism were people, Oprah would be China, if you mention her in the book, you’re there. If you don’t mention her in the book, it doesn’t exist. Oh, and, by the way, neither to do you.
Dems run an ad that says illegal immigrants are a threat to national security on the same day that democrats whine about enforcement of immigration laws
“The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) yesterday pulled an ad from its Web site after Hispanic groups accused Democrats of unfairly equating illegal aliens to terrorists.
"To liken Latino immigrants to bazooka-toting terrorists not only undermines the positive relationship our party has with this community, but it also lowers us to a despicable level as breeders of unfounded fear and hatred," Houston City Council member Carol Alvarado, a Democrat, said in a letter to Sen. Charles E. Schumer, the New York Democrat who heads the DSCC. The 35-second ad, released on its Web site earlier this week, criticizes the Bush administration as leaving America unsecured by showing illegal aliens scaling a border fence. That scene is mixed with images of Osama bin Laden and North Korean President Kim Jong-il.” (Washington Times)
On the very same day that this was happening, democrats like Cong. Luis Guiterrez are pleading with President Bush and ICE to allow Elvira Arellano, a “immigration activist” to stay in country, despite being convicted for illegally using a phony Social Security number and having already been deported once.
The democrats tell voters that the Bush administration if derelict in its duty to protect our national security by enforcing the borders while at the same time they seek to undermine the enforcement of immigration laws. Is it too cynical to ask if perhaps they are playing politics with this issue? Or are they the ones who are cynically underestimating the intelligence of the American people?

Just got off the treadmill, and on my way to the gym, and watching the UK Home Secretary talk about the latest al Qaeda plot
A few random thoughts:
Is it any wonder that al Qaeda wanted to pull off something BIG right now? Narsrallah aka Ottoman Head has become a rock star among fans of headchopping murder of the infidel in recent days, and they needed to get back on top.
How long before moonbats start suggesting that President Bush and Tony Blair, who are both on “vacation” now, staged these arrests to prove that they are still on top of things, and to distract from the “failure” that Iraq has become?
I hope the Brits weren’t eavesdropping on any conversations prior to making these arrests. I’d hate to think that any terrorists’ rights were violated!
More later. God Bless America.

This from the New York Post today:
“Eleven Egyptian students who were supposed to travel to a Montana university after flying to JFK airport late last month disappeared in New York, spurring federal authorities to issue a nationwide alert, officials said yesterday.
The students - who were traveling with six classmates from Mansoura University in Egypt - had their student visas revoked for failing to show up at Montana State University in Bozeman, the officials said.”
Am I the only one who is wondering why we don’t just chip these people with some sort of tracking device? If it’s good enough for our dogs, loyal friends and the epitome of American values, it’s got to be good enough for students, dare I say particularly those who come from countries riddled with hate-instructing Madrassas, who come here from other countries to “study.”
Just a thought.

Isn’t this special?
Tuesday’s (8/1/06) Chicago Tribune contained the following headline below the fold in the Metro section: “11 illegal workers granted reprieve from deportation.” The story was about 11 illegals employed by IFCO Systems who were arrested in a sweep last April, and who were granted a one-year stay of deportation by Judge Carlos Cuevas. Even the illegals’ attorney was surprised by the decision “saying that he was certain that the intervention of elected officials made the difference.” He was referring to Ald. Daniel Solis and Rep. Luis Gutierrez, who lobbied the Department of Homeland Security on behalf of these workers.
Isn’t it great to know that public officials, who I thought take an oath to uphold the law, are going to battle against the public officials who are trying to enforce it? If you live in Mr. Solis’ 25 ward, or are a constituent of Mr. Gutierrez, is this what you pay them to do?
It gets better. Rep. Gutierrez is so confident that the Senate’s amnesty bill is going to pass, his attitude is “why even bother enforcing the law at all?” Let me quote from the story. “Gutierrez will ask the Department of Homeland Security to suspend all deportations to give Congress time to pass a legalization bill, the congressman’s spokesman Scott Frotman said. Frontman said it does not make sense to deport illegal immigrants ‘because these are people who would ultimately be affected by the law.’”
Translation: attention border-jumpers, potential terrorists and anyone else who wants to flout U.S. law. Come on in! You can not only be guest workers, but guest voters. As loser democrat candidate Francine Busby said, you don’t need papers for voting.
Doesn’t make sense to deport them?! They are breaking the law. What part of that don’t you get?! Here’s a question I’d like to ask Rep. Gutierrez, who like all proponents of this idiotic Senate bill, claims it isn’t amnesty because the illegals who are allowed to stay will be required to learn English, will have to pay a fine, and will have to demonstrate a working knowledge of “American Idol.” (I made up that last one.) Congressman, since you show such contempt for our current law and such a lack of enthusiasm for enforcing it, how can we have any confidence in your willingness to enforce all the provisions in the new law? Who do you think you’re kidding?
Do you suppose it would make any difference if we sent Rep. Gutierrez and Ald. Solis a copy of the Los Angeles Times article that we discussed on last Sunday’s (7/30/06) show about the illegal immigrants with 10 kids living on the largesse of U.S. taxpayers? (If you didn’t hear us discuss it, you can find it here http://www.teriobrien.com/links.asp under the headline “Illegal Immigrant Has 10 Kids, Lives on Taxpayers”). Probably not.

Now we can all rest easy
Thank God that Jada Pinkett Smith has seen, and even held, Suri Cruise, and can vouch for the fact that she does exist. It’s a shame that her husband Will Smith didn’t go with her, but maybe he’s not a Scientologist, so maybe that was a deal breaker for Tom. Still, Mrs. Smith did see the elusive infant, which is close enough to Mr. and Mrs. Smith, which, if I’m not mistaken was the name of the movie that Brad and Angelina were working on when they hooked up and produced their own spawn. Celebrity bastard symmetry—catch it!
Seriously, would it be too much to ask for these Hollywood dimwits to at least get married before, or even immediately after, they reproduce? Must they constantly set the worst possible example for the millions who actually believe that they are worthy of attention, and even emulation? Those people, most of whom lack celebrity-caliber bank accounts, are not able to insulate their children from the consequences of illegitimate birth, and end up on the Oprah show whining about the minimum wage. MMM …the Oprah show, the same show that invited Tom Cruise on the show to celebrate his love for the fair Katie. Here's an idea for Oprah: instead of wagging your finger in our faces and telling us how guilty we should feel about the minimum wage, how about doing a show on the consequences of illegitimacy? That's a subject that has been strangely absent from the Harpo roster. If Oprah is so concerned about poverty, education and drug abuse, I think that might be a good place to start.
