HELP FIND THE JERK WHO HIT PRODUCER JO'S CAR

As you may have heard me mention on the air, on Friday night (8/12/05) producer Jo, travelling between two of her jobs, one here at WLS, was the victim of a hit and run accident. She was going north on the Dan Ryan, when at approximately 51st Street, a black SUV crossed into her lane and flipped her white GEO over. Was the driver drunk? Distracted? Talking on the phone? Stupid? All 4? Who knows? No one knows because the irresponsible, thoughtless cretin drove off without even stopping to see whether he or she had killed anyone! As it was, she was in the hospital over night, and although she is a tad banged up, thank God, she will be ok. Her friend, who works with her at her other job and who was also in the car, has to go to a burn unit to treat his injuries, which can best be described as having a large part of his upper body peeled. As for her car, it may be totaled, but until that is determined, it sits in a lot, accruing mounting fees every day.

Producer Jo is not only indispensible to my show, and several others, she is a terrific person who doesn't deserve kind of crap.

If you saw anything, please leave Jo Wheeler a voice mail by calling 312.357.1583.

Is anyone else out there thinking this stuff, or is it just me?

Now that the NCAA has forbidden the use of “offensive,” and “insensitive” mascots in post-season play, will someone please ban the use of live human beings like African-Americans, women and other supposed victim groups as mascots by liberal activists?

We all know from those memos released back in December 2003 (the batch that included the infamous he-is-dangerous-because-he’s-a-Latino memo about Miguel Estrada) that our own senior senator Dick Durbin met regularly with representatives of NARAL. He is tight with those folks. Do you suppose he has any thoughts about that deliberately false, misleading and slanderous ad they’re trying to get tv stations to run about John Roberts? Given his closeness to this group, should he allowed to remain silent about it? (If you don’t think so, go to the “Politically Connected” link at wlsam.com and let him know.)

Does it seem weird that President Bush seems more supportive of Mayor Daley than Barack Obama is?

Does the orgy of tv coverage surrounding the death of Peter Jennings seem a tad overdone? It’s always sad when someone dies of cancer, of course, but it doesn’t seem to me that all this outpouring of emotion by fellow newsreaders over Mr. Jenning’s death is about that. Doesn’t it seem to be more about the fact that he was irreplaceably important because THEY are so important?

Back in Business!

Whoa! Who knew how depressed one could get when her internet connection didn’t work? No e-mail, no blogging, no nothing since Wednesday of last week! What a nightmare!

Thank God I was able to fix everything, and in the process end up with all the cool new features of the latest Mac OS, Tiger. I can’t wait to explore all of its possibilities. The only downside of this whole thing is having to admit that the Husband was right when he said if I upgraded to the latest OS all my connection problems would be over.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Remember that Mark Czernick mope? He’s the rocket scientist who allegedly kidnapped and killed Lucky, an adorable cocker spaniel puppy. He was originally scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow in Joliet, but as I mentioned on the air today, smart listener Kim let me know that he went in to court early, and requested early arraignment so he could go out of town. Who’d have imagined that this guy would have the sense to do that?! His trial date is apparently set for September 9.
Thanks so much, Kim, for keeping us updated on the status of this case. We all hope this guy, if he is in fact the perpetrator of this crime, gets what’s coming to him.

Thanks to another listener and court advocate, Barbara, we have the following information about the case:

Mark Czernick
Case #05CF1431

State's attorney # 815.727.8453

We'll stay on top of this case and let you know if anything changes. I hope to attend the opening date of the trial.

Now that I’m back on line, I will be posting here much more often, so please check in soon.

Have a great week!
Best,
T
