A special message to all of you who have written kind and encouraging notes about the morning show
First, I want to thank all of you for taking the time to send me your thoughtful e-mails letting me know that you enjoyed the work that Art Wallis and I the last seven weeks from 5-9 am Monday-Friday. While we appreciated the opportunity, we, like nearly everyone else, hoped that management would resolve its issues with Don and Roma and the happy day of their return would arrive soon. Now that it has, let me repeat that we were happy to be able to step up, pitch in and help out while the lawyers did their work. I never had any illusions about being able to fill their shoes, but at least they didn’t have to turn off the transmitter while things got worked out.
Also, I want to say that Art and I couldn’t have done the job we did without the patience, professionalism and hard work of producers Jon Romanovich, Tim Allen and Joe Soukup, and our amazing morning news team, News Director Steve Scott, and Cisco Cotto. They are the best in the business, and I feel honored to have worked with them.
Finally, when I think of patience, professionalism and hard work, I immediately think of Art Wallis, but more than that I think that, while there are many words that could describe him, there is one that is particularly apropos. It’s an old-fashioned word, maybe, and that’s a shame, I think. The word that describes Art to a tee is ‘gentleman,’ in the best sense of the word; that is, a man of kindness, worthy ideals, and integrity in thought and action. Plus he’s pretty funny.
Now, some of you cynics out there may be saying “C’mon, Tere, you can’t mean this suck-up routine. You can’t be happy that you didn’t get the morning show gig!” Well, you’re not correct about that, but you are right that I do aspire to a regular M-F shift on WLS, but what you are missing is that what’s good for WLS is good for all of us in the long run, and that’s having Don and Roma back. That’s what will result in our station doing the best in the ratings and that can only help us all have more opportunities. So there cynics.
I hope that those of you who have been listening to my Sunday show (12 noon-3 pm) will continue to do so, and that if you discovered my work on the air while we did the morning show, I hope you’ll check out the Sunday show.
Thanks again to you all for your encouragement, support, thoughtfulness and most of all for listening.
