Scary Kerry
QUESTIONS
What do you find most Scary about the prospect of a Kerry presidency? Here's my short list:
Propensity to do or say whatever is politically expedient at the moment. Example: Recent incessant criticism of our military’s actions in Tora Bora when at the time he said we were handling the situation correctly; statement in 1992 that Vietnam shouldn’t be inserted into the presidential campaign v. his campaign’s incessant mention of his Vietnam service in his current campaign; his assertion in Iowa that he believes life begins at conception, which seems bizarre in view of his extremist position on abortion (voted against Laci and Connors’ Law, consistently votes against partial birth abortion bans)
Refusal to answer any specific questions. Example: Bob Woodward's Decision Iraq column (Washington Post, 10/24/04), in which Woodward explains that unlike President Bush, John Kerry refused to answer specific questions about what he would have done differently in the leadup to the war, despite Kerry's that "I would've done almost everything differently," and despite Woodward's providing the 22 questions to the Kerry campaign in advance. Americans should take comfort in the fact that, according to his advisers, "Kerry would have strong and compelling answers." If that is, he had chosen to answer the questions.
Persistent refusal to accept that war on terrorism is a real war. Examples: New York Times Magazine article (10/16/04) in which he expressed desire to go back to when terrorism was a ‘nuisance;’ statement that he would try UBL in U.S. courts (with Johnnie Cochran defending him, no doubt).
Unwavering obsession with gaining the approval of discredited bodies like the U.N. and disloyal so-called ‘allies’ like France and Germany; Examples: the “global test” comment and the statement in the Washington Post re the possibility of U.S. troops being killed in Bosnia “If you mean dying in the course of the United Nations effort, yes, it’s worth that. If you mean dying American troops unilaterally going in with some false presumption that we can affect the outcome, the answer is unequivocably no.”
Attempt to use fig-leaf of four months in Viet Nam 30+ years ago to distract everyone from the facts of his Senate voting record, which puts him on the wrong side of national security at every turn in the road. Examples: 1984 campaign position paper advocated cancelling virtually entire Reagan defense buildup; advocated massive cuts in intel and defense spending in 1994, just one year after the first World Trade Center bombing: in 1996, introduced bill to slash $6.5 billlion from defense spending;
Unwillingness to appreciate the uniqueness of America as a ‘shining city on a hill’ and our positive role in the world because of it; Examples: characterizing nuclear proliferation as including not only the pursuit of these weapons by dictatorships in Iran and North Korea, but also their production by the U.S. (Query: isn’t this guy, who promises to terminate our bunker buster program, the same one who is criticizing our actions in Tora Bora?)
Failure to explain troubling aspects of his post-Vietnam activities, and to explain why we should consider his service in a war that he called a 'mistake' a glowing credential that makes him qualified to be commander-in-chief, particularly given his continuing propensity to slander the U.S. military. Examples: meetings with the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese in Paris in 1970, what really happened with that first purple heart, why he won't sign form 180 and release his military records; his recent concoction, along with his willing accomplices the New York Times and CBS, of an attempt to accuse our troops of negligence at al Qaaqa, and I do mean qa qa.
Propensity to lie shamelessly about everything. Examples: Claim that President Bush ‘let Osama bin Laden’ escape through the back door, despite Tommy Franks’ assertion that Kerry’s assertion ‘doesn’t square with reality,’ and that his statement that we ‘outsourced’ the capture of bin Laden is also not true, since our elite special forces were there; claim that he met with all the members of the Security Council in September, 2003, when four out of five of the ambassadors contacted by the Washington Times said they’d never met Kerry; numerous imaginary friends like the soldiers on the rope line, these foreign leaders.
He’s a complete phony, opportunistic poser! Examples: Phony photo ops attempting to fool us into believing that he is a supporter of the 2nd amendment; Example: Wears borrow cammo outfit and pretends to be a hunter; goes into a store in Ohio and says “Can I get me a huntin’ license?;” Pretends to eat a Wendy’s with Teresa, but actually eats catered lunch from a yacht club.
I could go on, but I'm scaring myself. Happy Halloween!
Only two days until the president is re-elected, so be of good cheer.

“Desperate Candidates”
(My Homage to ABC’s smash hit “Desperate Housewives” heard on air 10/25/04)
VO (voiceover) by Al Gore, as the Dead Guy
Sample Episodes:
John fears the worst, in more ways than one, after Teresa escapes again and ends up giving a live interview on the Ellen DeGeneris Show.
Heads roll and hilarity ensues after John gives his “Bush draft starts 11/3/04, no questions asked” speech in front of an AARP audience. “Do you expect me to pre-read this gibberish?” he screams.
In a very special “Desperate Candidates” episode, John rescues Vanessa’s hamster after it falls in John Edwards’ kiddie pool and applies for a 5th Purple Heart. Special Guest: John O’Neil.

Would have been so bad just to schedule “Friday the 13th” in the first place?
Mr. Tom Kern, the director of the Wauconda Area Library, is not happy about all the “vitriolic, even threatening, partisan opposition” that resulted when we had the audacity to publicize his decision to show anti-American serial liar Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9/11” on October 28, 2004, or 5 days before the upcoming election. As a result of our shining the light of truth on this blatantly partisan attempt to use taxpayer funds to promote the candidacy of the democrat in the upcoming election, the library has cancelled the screening. No doubt some will attempt to characterize this return to common sense as “censorship,” as if freedom of speech means that one person has the right to require another to subsidize that speech. Say anything you want, but don’t expect the taxpayers to pay for it.
In his statement regarding the cancellation, Mr. Kern states that the library folks didn’t think a tiny minority should be “allowed to dictate what the other 22,000 residents could or could not see at the library. After all, anyone who chose not to see the film could simply not attend.” Right, but they are still required to help pay for showing it, aren’t they Mr. Kern? And precisely who is this “tiny minority” functioning as dictators, those who oppose coercing taxpayers to promote a political agenda or public officials who use public funds for electioneering?
Mr. Kern’s statement also includes a veiled suggestion that those who questioned his decision to show this piece of despicable propaganda are a gaggle of Neanderthals who condemn this film sight unseen. Wrong again, Mr. Kern, at least in my case. I guess I’m the person you meant when you said that “almost without exception, the opponents of the film have not seen it.” I think you should get off your high horse, though, and stop pretending that anyone with a functioning brain cell who has seen any of Mr. Moore’s work would need to see it to know that it is almost exclusively lies derived out of whole cloth. Your condescension is showing, just as it did when you expressed shock that this movie is actually devisive. Why then did you post a disclaimer about it on your website when you scheduled it? PULEEZE. Perhaps the movie you need to screen is “Casablanca.” Pay particular attention to the scene in which the Claude Raines character, a corrupt official, expresses shock that gambling is going on in Rick’s Café American.
On the air, we mentioned the fact that the American Library Association's leadership, no doubt unbeknownst to many of its members, has become little more than another left-wing advocacy group that single-handedly rescued Michael Moore’s book, Stupid White Men, another collection of lies and distortion, from the resale heap and that sucks up to Fidel Castro. Not that those facts would have anything to do with the Wauconda Area Library’s attempt to pull a fast one. Of course not.

I keep promising to share my recipe for perfect HB eggs. OK, it' s not mine. It belongs to the late great Julia Child. I have used it quite successfully and recommend it to you.
The Perfect Hard Boiled EggRecipe By : Julia Child, "The Way to Cook"
Serving Size : 1
Preparation Time :0:40
For 1-4 Eggs:1 to 4 Eggs2 quarts water -- * see noteFor 12 Eggs:12 Eggs3 1/2 quarts water -- * see noteFor 24 Eggs:24 Eggs6 quarts water -- * see note
Special Equipment High (not wide) Saucepan with coverBowl w/ice cubes & water (large enough tocompletely cover eggs)
*note: water should cover the eggs by 1 inch, so use a tall pan, and limitcooking to 2 dozen eggs at a time.
1. Lay the eggs in the pan and add the amount of cold water specified. Setover high heat and bring just to the boil; remove from heat, cover the pan,and let sit exactly 17 minutes.
2. When the time is up, transfer the eggs to the bowl of ice cubes andwater. Chill for 2 minutes while bringing the cooking water to the boilagain. (This 2 minute chilling shrinks the body of the egg from the shell.)
3. Transfer the eggs (6 at a time only) to the boiling water, bring to theboil again, and let boil for 10 seconds - this expands the shell from theegg. Remove eggs, and place back into the ice water.Chilling the eggs promptly after each step prevents that dark line fromforming, and if time allows, leave the eggs in the ice water after the laststep for 15 to 20 minutes. Chilled eggs are easier to peel, as well. The peeled eggs will keep perfectly in the refrigerator, submerged in waterin an uncovered container, for 2 to 3 days.
