I invite you personally to take an evening off, enjoy wonderful food, music and drinks with me at The Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers for Great Chefs 2005, A Tasting Party! Chicago's finest premier chefs have donated and will prepare food from Mike Ditka's Iron Mike's Grille, Meritage, Kamehachi of Toyko (my favorite Chicago sushi restaurant!) Gibsons, Tavern on Rush, Trattoria No. 10 and many, many others. Dutchie Caray and I will be the MCs....and we will have a blast. I'll be celebrating my 34th birthday on June 3rd..beginning at 5:15pm. Great Chefs 2005 benefits United Cerebral Palsy--a charity that I've seen in action first hand. Please support a great cause and join us! It's going to be a blast. For more info, call 312-368-0380 ext. 227. See you then!
I will be taking off Monday to spend some time with my mother and Aunt Kathleen, who is visiting Chicago from Co. Offaly, Ireland. They arrive tomorrow! Can't wait. I've got great things in store...including purchasing tickets to Wicked. (Paid an arm and a leg..as it's sold out...but they're worth it.)
If you have time today, join me at Binny's in Buffalo Grove for our wine tasting from 4-6 pm...I look forward to meeting you and spend some time chatting!
Finally, as you prepare your Memorial Day barbecues, family reunions, picking up loved ones at the airport...or even head out of town yourselves...think of our troops. Pray for them. Thank them if you see them this weekend. They will not be able to do all the great things this weekend that we may take for granted. Our men and women in uniform serve our country because they love it above all else. They deserve to be remembered every day...but especially this weekend. God Bless You! Eileen Byrne

Got an email today from Gerald over the debate over embryonic stem cell research:
"Enough with the Stem cell research for spinal cord injuries.
There has NEVER been a claim by any reputable scientific researcher that this kind of research can help spinal cord injuries. In fact, they have been specific to point out that it will most likely NEVER have any effect on spinal cord injuries.
The only peole making this claim are those with no scientific credentials for whom stem cells can cure everything including tooth decay, warts and general unattractiveness. Thanks for hearing me out."
I couldn't help but think when I read this..."My name's Brian and I've been suffering from psoriasis and eczema for years--it's like having brand new skin! Or Jeanine- I'm in a t-shirt and shorts and I finally have a social life again!"
Thanks By Owner!
(I think I am exposed to too many commercials.)
Tomorrow, we welcome in studio, Lt. Colonel Ryan Yantis who will be telling us about the Barrington Freedom Festival on June 26th. I will be one of the hosts and invite you to join us to kick off summer by supporting our troops. Thanks for reading. See you tomorrow at 9am! Eileen

Just call me Auntie Eileen! Yes, after much hard work (sure!) and lots of praying, my sister and brother-in-law are expecting their first child in December. I am convinced it's a boy...but just thanking God for the wonderful news and praying for a healthy, happy (Republican) child! Grandma and Grandpa Byrne are thrilled with the news of their first grandchild. Amazing what a child can do to pull people and families together. Keep us all in your prayers.
Great news on the Carver Military Academy "Spring Break" trip! Brad Rosenbaum from Hemisphere Educational Travel checked the P.O. Box on Monday and already received over three dozen letters of donations for the students. (These are the students who were robbed of $9,000)Thank you so much for your generosity. B96 and Power 92 have also called to raise money on their stations and thanks to ABC 7's Harry Porterfield who did the story on the 6pm news Friday! It is much appreciated. Incidentally, a special thank you to Denise Erickson of Harmony Home Care in Barrington who has donated $500.00 to the effort. Harmony Home Care is a company that hires caregivers to do a variety of work--shopping, cooking, laundry, bathing, so that seniors can remain in their home. If you need a personal caregiver for a loved one, call them at 847-382-6200.
Tomorrow's show: I never want to hear the term- Stupid Americans- again! Reason to be discussed. We'll also talk about notifying parents if teens have an abortion. Follow-up to Bill Maher's comments about the military.
Also, I am going to be hosting the Barrinton Freedom Festival in June. We will have Lt. Col. Ryan Yantis on the air Thursday morning to discuss the festival and how you can be a part of it! See you manana! Eileen Byrne

It was great to see you guys at Hollywood Blvd Theatre in Woodridge for "Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith". I know it was a late night...but it was well worth it, to me at least. I really enjoyed the movie and hope you did as well. Email me your comments at eileen.f.byrne@abc.com
If you haven't had a chance to see the latest in the Star Wars saga, I think you will really enjoy the film. Yeah, the critics are trying to bash it...oh it's too violent, and the acting is bad...and the writing and the politics--and, to be fair, there's a little truth in all of that criticism...but this is going to be a blockbuster and it's going to be huge because...besides seeing the special effects on the big screen, it pulls the story together finally and you see the agony of Anakin Skywalker's decisions and why he becomes a victim of his own fate. (There's the English major in me.) I see some "Godfather" in it too. Really. I'll just say, Moe Greene. And I made a comparison to "Wicked"..where you see behind the evil and understand the person. Yikes. I think I sound like a liberal!
I know Democrats are making the comparison to Bill Frist. Good. Let them become mired in their own Hollywood nonsense. Just give Priscilla Owen, Janice Rogers Brown and the rest an up- or-down vote already and get on with the business of the country. I'm sick of this story..because there is nothing out of the mainstream with these nominees. They are not activist judges, as the other side would like. If they are so out of the mainstream, then where are your moderate Republicans, those who were concerned over John Bolton...where are they? Let them join your ranks and vote them down. Enough.
Tomorrow, we'll talk about a preggo teen who decided to join her own graduation ceremony even though it was against the rules of the school...parents are loving her bad behavior. Judge Lefkow wants us to shut up about judges...because it's dangerous...well, what about the danger of maliciously maligning police officers at risk every day? And..............Preakness Picks. Your unscreened calls! Tomorrow between 9am and 11! See you then. Eileen

How are ya? Well, as you know, I'm supposed to make my "e chicken" dish tonight. Looks like it will have to be next Tuesday...as I have a softball game tonight. Forgot about it. Then...EPISODE THREE! Yep! We are going to the midnight showing tonight. Got the tickets....so we'll see you in Woodridge, 75th and Lemont Road. Ray Park (Darth Maul) will be at the theater tonight and all weekend, at Hollywood. I swear, he's the nicest celebrity I've ever met. Sooo completely down to earth. He was such a fun interview...and he signed a whole bunch of pictures so I can donate them to United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Chicago...the event I'm hosting on June 3rd (see below) and an event I'm working on with Elk Grove Village in October...a Halloween bash... to raise money for the families of military heroes killed in Iraq. Tune in tomorrow for Episode Three: Revenge of the Sith review and then we'll get into the attack on Sunday School Teacher/ Texas Supreme Court Judge and US Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals nominee, The Honorable Priscilla Owen...why she's so "extreme" ...and why pre-schoolers are getting kicked out of school.

Can't wait to celebrate my birthday with you and raise money for a great cause. Join more than 40 of Chicago's finest chefs, from Topo Gigio, Gibsons and Nacional 27 on Friday June 3rd for Great Chefs 2005: A Tasting Party to benefit United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Chicago. We'll be there from 5:15pm till 9pm--I've bought a table for ten myself..at The Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers at 301 E. Water Street. Tickets are $85 and include beer, wine, liquor and an unlimted tasting of appetizers, entrees and desserts. I'll also provide my own birthday cake! Thank you for supporting a great cause. I have been to the UCP headquarters and know, first hand, that your donations are going to buy technology, computers, and instruction to help some very deserving children and adults. If you'd like ticket info, call Christy at 312-368-0380 ext. 227. Thank you!

Engagement Chicken: Let's see if this works!
You need:
1 Whole Chicken (approx. 3 lbs.)
2 medium lemons
Fresh lemon juice (1/2 cup)
Kosher or sea salt
Ground black pepper
Place rack in upper third of oven and preheat to 400 degrees. Wash chicken inside and out with cold water, remove the giblets, then let the chicken drain, cavity down, in a colander until it reaches room temperature (about 15 minutes). Pat dry with paper towels. Pour lemon juice all over the chicken (inside and outside). Season with salt and pepper. Prick the whole lemons three times with a fork and place deep inside the cavity. (Tip: If lemons are hard, roll on countertop with your plams to get the juices flowing.) Place the bird breast-side down on a rack in a roasting pan, lower heat to 350 degrees and bake uncovered for fifteen minutes. Remove from oven and turn it breast-side up (use wooden spoons!) Return it to oven for 35 minutes more. Test for doneness using a meat thermometer inserted in the thigh-- should read 180 degrees, or juices should run clear when checken is pricked with a fork. Continue baking if necessary. Let chicken cool for a few minutes before carving. Serve with juices.
If this does not work and you do not get engaged, or even worse, burn down your house with this recipe...don't even think of suing me. I am absolving myself of all responsiblity for this recipe. It comes from Glamour magazine. So take your beef to them. I'm just the messenger.
I'm off to Galena with Christina! See you Monday. I'm making the chicken on Wednesday! Have a great weekend. Eileen

I am so stunned at the news from Zion that police have charged the father of Laura Hobbs, Jerry Hobbs, with first degree murder in the deaths of Laura and her best friend, both brutally stabbed this past Mother's Day weekend. I know that it's all alleged and innocent until proven guilty and all that...but I have mixed emotions about hearing the charges--and I'm sure you've been weighing them in your own mind. On the one hand--and we discussed this this morning--there has to be some feeling of relief that there's not a random murderer out there hiding in the bushes waiting for little kids to come riding past on their bikes. But I've got such a feeling of horror too--I'm the kind of person that sees dead birds on the sidewalk in downtown Chicago and gets down about it. How could someone possibly--and I know that it's just a possiblity....but how could anyone do this to their own flesh and blood? Someone they know...someone they love and have raised? It is incomprehensible to me. They looked like such lovely, innocent little girls--smiley and giggly, as the Chicago Tribune wrote today--like any other eight and nine year old girls you know...riding bikes, playing with markers, swinging in a hammock. It boggles my mind to think that they are now gone. I can't even imagine the pain and trauma their siblings and family members and friends must be undergoing. I'm so very sorry for them. The other feeling I've got is anger and bitterness--and if it is this man who did this...he should never see the light of day again. Definitely death penalty case, in my opinion. I also struggle with ....why this man was even out of prison to begin with? Who gets a suspended sentence for attempting to harm someone with a chain saw? We'll have more about it tomorrow morning between 9am--11am. I'm working on a special guest too. More tomorrow....Eileen

Word has it that the "Los Angeles, Mexico" billboard will be changed! Community outrage has prompted the billboard to be removed. We will follow up Thursday.
Want to thank you so much for listening and offering words of encouragement to our guest, Phil Collins, who came back from Iraq last month. I know it meant a lot to him to hear your words of support. I know that he was not my most talkative guest...but when you say you support the troops...mean it! Actions speak louder than words....and when someone needs help, I will try, to the best of my ability, to help. Looks like we got our friend hooked up with a job.
Tomorrow, we will talk about whether Paula Abdul should be booted off American Idol. Come on! What's the deal with this "EXPOSE"?! Why all the media attention devoted to a TV program? But...I'll be watching...in spite of myself. We will also talk to a group upset that convicted murderers of children are writing personal ads trying to entice new pals. Tune in! Thanks again. Eileen
